2. Amsterdam – the city of canals, Netherlands
- In the Netherlands, all taxes and tips are included in the price by law; the price that you will see on the note is all you need to pay.
- Amsterdam has excellent public transport services; many trams and good facilities for cyclists including special lights for cyclists. If you walk through Amsterdam, be aware of bicycle markings. Locals get upset if you go on the bike lane and some may even hurt you.
- Ride boats on the canals of Amsterdam are a great way to see the city from the water. The ride takes about 90 minutes and lead tourists through the city and the port. If you feel energetic enough you can rent a bicycle (Canal Bike) from one of the various rental points in the city. You will pay about eight euros per hour per person.
- Go take a free lunch and attend a concert in the Concertgebouw (Museumplein).
- If you want to eat a pizza combined with any other culinary madness, go behind National Monument Street in the direction of the Red Light district!
- There are a number of free attractions and many places to see and things to do that will reduce costs: Schuttersgalerij, Canal Ring, Beginhof, Free Tour in Amsterdam, Albert Cuypmarkt market, Red Light District, Cheese and chocolate tasting, Festivals, Nieuwe Kerk, the new church, Cannabis College, Free Live music bars, Multatuli Museum.
- Do not smoke (cigarettes)in bars, discos, even in coffee shops! Smoking is banned in public places (by law) but you can sit on terraces where permitted.
- There are no office buildings in the center! If you expect to offices, banks and other buildings in the center variety, Amsterdam will surprise you with their absence. Instead, you can only admire 17th-century houses, hotels and shopping streets.
- Eat mayo with fries.
