4. Athens – the city of Gods, Greece
- Start visiting Acropolis and Parthenon, then explore the Agora, and end with a visit to the beautiful National Museum of Archaeology. You will find an abundance of antique statues, including a bronze Poseidon!
- Climb the Olympus Mount, that Greek poet Homer described as “home of the gods”. Another world famous monument to be seen is the sanctuary of Delphi.
- Go to Plaka, Acropolis neighborhood under the walls of Acropolis… Do not miss to drink coffee on a terrace on the Acropolis, to throw an eye on the Monastiraki and then walk through Ermou, the main shopping street which takes you directly to Syntagma Square …
- Port of Athens is a city itself and is where most people go on their way to the islands. If you are enthusiastic about boats, ships and yachts, you cannot miss the Athen`s port.
- Never enter into a tavern where no one eats, search for populated places, otherwise you may have unpleasant surprises.
- Greek salad (salad Horiatiki) must be made of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onion, pickled capers strains, some olives on which dominates a slice of feta cheese (goat milk cheese) everything sprinkled with olive oil and sprinkled with oregano.
- In Greece, you should be aware of “Mediterranean siesta”, stretching from 14.00 to 17.00. During this time, shops and institutions are usually closed as summer temperatures are very high at midday. However, restaurants remain open during this time.
- If in the vacation you make friends with some of the locals, you should know that when you go visiting a Greek family, you must always bring some flowers and chocolate.
