7. Rome – the eternal city, Italy

  • There is a dress code if you are to visit St. Peter’s Basilica. Shorts are not allowed for men or women, Tank tops, bare shoulders or short skirts are not permitted. Dress appropriately or they will turn you away from the entrance. We saw many people being turned away for improper attire.
  • Traffic on street Fori Imperiali, where the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trajan’s Column, Imperial Forums are situated is closed on Sundays. Therefore, pedestrians can move easily on the street and I can say that you can get some superb photos with Colosseum in background.
  • Rome can be visited in August successfully! It’s sunny, hot and the city is almoust empty because italians are on vacation.
  • Do not buy souvenirs near the tourist attractions. Buy from places where there are stalls near the stalls, because you can find them at prices much lower. For example, the streets leading to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain.
  • All products are Chinese, Turkish or anything but Italian! For original products go to galleries Alberto Sordi or Via dei Condotti, but prepare to spend hundreds or thousands of euros…
  • – In August are massive discounts up to 70%, an opportunity to shop for those who love shopping.
  • if you do not have time or money for museums, enter in churched! It are reas, valuable artwork and charges are not input. You can see paintings and sculptures by Michelangelo Caravagio.
  • Visit Navona Square in the night! It’s romantic and enjoyable…as Trevi Fountain.
  • do not be afraid to ask italians for tourist informations; they are very kind.
  • Be careful where you cross the street. It’s safer to traverse only in the places marked and be aware from scooters.
