Travel Impressions From Lisbon, Cidade Vibrante

The true enjoyment came from descending down into the spiral stairs of the inverted tower and following the dark tunnels to climb out of the unfinished well.

Another amazing place we found in the garden of Quinta da regaleira is Poço Iniciático, The Initiation Well; this is a reversed tower that sinks into the ground at 27 m depth, where you can step up or down on a spiral staircase, with new levels, representing the nine circles of Hell, Purgatory and the nine skies of the Paradise, imagined in the Divine Comedy by Dante; This fountain symbolizes the connection between Heaven and Earth and it can be traveled in both directions. The Fountain belonged to Augusto Carvalho Monteiro Mason and was built by Italian architect Luigi Manini.
